Cyanuric chloride also called trichloro-s-triazine is a symmetrical heterocyclic compound containing three reactive acyl-like chlorines. The three reactive chlorines have different reactivities toward nucleophiles in an aqueous solution. The first chlorine is reactive toward amine groups at 4oC and pH 9.0. The second chlorineis reactive toward amine groups at room temperature and pH 9.0. The third chlorine requires a temperature of at least 80oC at alkaline pH.
